Interview Transcript and Summary
Employ’s Interview Transcript and Summary service is available for use in Lever. When the feature is turned on for a job, interviews are recorded, transcribed, and summarized. Once the interview is transcribed, the summary is based solely on the audio transcript. Summaries are available in Lever for recruiters, hiring managers, and interviewers. This allows interviewers to be more present during interviews and eliminates the need for recruiters to chase them down for their feedback.
Interview Transcript and Summary Process
The recruiter can turn the Interview Transcript and Summary on or off for a job. If the Interview Transcript and Summary are turned on for the job, all interviews for the job will be recorded (subject to your interview limit).
When an interview is created for a relevant job, the meeting captions are used to generate a transcript via the ‘Recall’ service. Once the transcript is completed, it is summarized via an LLM. Once the AI has created the summary, both the transcript and the summary are made available for the interview.
Interview Transcript and Summary Technology
Our Interview Transcript and summary feature uses external, closed-source LLMs (Large Language Models). We do not manage or maintain our own models, and we don’t train models on interview data or hiring outcomes.
Employ reserves the right to determine which LLMs / GenAI providers we will use. Because of the pace of change in AI, we do not send push notifications to customers when we switch from one LLM to another to maximize accuracy and balance costs, unless we deem it relevant to the customer.
We maintain a test interview dataset for accuracy testing. If that accuracy decreases at any point, we re-evaluate the prompt and the LLM being used to achieve a high level of accuracy consistently. Because of the testing framework that we have built, this can be done in a matter of hours by detecting a drop in accuracy. We also use this testing framework to evaluate the latest models and methods as they become available.
Interview Transcript and Summary Data Security
Because the interview process relies heavily on virtual interviews, we share limited PII with external LLMs. Recall ‘joins’ the virtual interview to transcribe the call, so it has First and Last Name. We also share the full transcript of the interview (including First and Last Name). We don’t do any model training or interview transcripts and summaries, so data is never consolidated across customer environments.
Preventing and Mitigating Bias in Results
The interview transcription and summary process doesn’t make recommendations about whether or not a candidate is a fit for a role or rank one candidate above another. The AI used in this process is only for transcription and summarization. We maintain tests to assess summarization accuracy, but this type of AI will not introduce bias into the hiring process.
Notifying Customers and Candidates of AI Use
By using the Interview Transcript and Summary for an open job, the customer consents to the use of AI in their hiring process. Customers are responsible for informing candidates that their applications are evaluated using AI. This is often done in the Job Description itself or on the career site. This message is configurable in the Interview Intelligence tab of the AI Features in the settings menu. When interview recordings are turned on, our system sends the candidate an interview meeting invite via email. A consent message is appended to the email interview invitation to inform the candidate that AI will be used in the interview process and to provide the option to opt out.
Interview Transcript and Summary in the EU
At this time, the Interview Transcript and Summary are not available to customers who exclusively use an EU data center. The Interview Transcript and Summary endpoints are in US-based data centers, so they can be used if a data processing agreement is in place. EU endpoints will be made available in the future.
