Visual Insights is Lever's next-generation analytics engine. To help you familiarize yourself with this reporting interface we have compiled the following list of answers to commonly asked questions about Visual Insights. As this list of questions is quite dense, we recommend using a keyword search on this webpage (Mac: ⌘ + F | Windows: Ctrl + F ) to find information related to find specific answers.
Can all customers access the dashboards in Visual Insights?
Access to most Visual Insights dashboards is included with LeverTRM. Select dashboards are only available with LeverTRM for Enterprise and/or specific add-ons. A full breakdown of the dashboards included with each package and add-on can be found in our introduction to Visual Insights help article.
What access role does a user need in order to access the dashboards in Visual Insights?
Refer to the 'Visual Insights' section in our
user access breakdown article.
Is there a glossary with definitions for the terms used in Visual Insights?
For chart-specific definitions (like calculations and associated filters), hover over the tooltip (the ⓘ icon) for any chart to reveal more information. For definitions of the terms/concepts/entities in Lever, refer to our
LeverTRM Glossary.
What is the difference between Lever Talent Intelligence and Visual Insights?
Lever Talent Intelligence is a separate analytics offering, run through Tableau and available exclusively with the Advanced Analytics add-on. Visual Insights is the default analytics interface built directly into the Lever platform and is included with all Lever packages. Lever Talent Intelligence is set to be decommissioned in December 2024.
What additional Visual Insights dashboards and functionalities come with the Advanced Analytics add-on?
A full breakdown of the dashboards available with the Advanced Analytics add-on can be found in our
Visual Insights chart directory. The Advanced Analytics add-on also includes access to Data Explorer, which can be used to build custom charts and dashboards in Visual Insights. To learn more, refer to our
Data Explorer help article.
Can shared dashboards be sent in an interactive format?
No. Reports can only be shared in a static file format (jpeg, png, pdf). To view reports in an interactive format, users will need to view the corresponding dashboard within Visual Insights.
Can dashboards be shared in an Excel or CSV format?
Shared reports can only be shared in jpeg, png, or pdf formats. Direct exports and drill down tables can be downloaded as Excel or CSV files.
Do shared dashboards include all records of data?
When a dashboard is shared, not all records on the dashboard charts will be included on the generated report due to the large volume of data contained on each dashboard. For stakeholders that need to view more granular data, we advise exploring alternatives such as drilling down or running a direct export.
Is it possible to customize dashboards in Visual Insights?
At this time, it is not possible to customize the dashboard in Visual Insights. If you have the LeverTRM for Enterprise package or the Advanced Analytics add-on, you can use Data Explorer to build new charts and dashboards from available data sets. To review which datasets are available, refer to our
Data Explorer data set directory. To review which charts are available on each dashboard, review our
Visual Insights chart directory.
What business intelligence tool is used to create the visualizations in Visual Insights?
Visual Insights is powered by Looker. Visit
Looker's homepage to learn more.
Do bookmarked dashboards load faster?
Yes. You will see improved performance and load times as the queries have been pre-determined by the bookmark. Bookmarks function as sets of pre-filters that make the data smaller and faster to render.
What is the difference between the 'date range' filter and the 'date interval' filter?
The value in the 'Date range' filter will set the timeframe for the dataset (i.e. the period of time within which data will be pulled). The cadence in the 'Date interval' filter controls how data is segmented in charts impacted by that filter (e.g. breaking down the data into monthly, quarterly, or yearly segments).
Is it possible to expand the number of available filter fields?
It is not possible to add filter fields to the main Visual Insights dashboards. The Data Explorer feature can be used to build custom dashboards, which also gives you control over the number of filters you can add to them.
Can users with Super Admin access use a 'proxy' view to review dashboards from the perspective of other users in their Lever environment?
At this time, Visual Insights does not offer a 'proxy' view for Super Admins. Some dashboards can be filtered by opportunity owner and/or hiring manager in order to view data associated with specific users in your Lever environment. To find out which dashboards include these filter fields, refer to our
dashboard filters help article.
Can custom dashboards and Looks (built using Data Explorer) be shared with other Lever users?
Yes. Custom dashboards and Looks in Data Explorer can be shared with other members of your company.
Does time that a requisition spends on hold count towards its time spent open?
Yes, if a requisition is on hold, that time still counts toward the days a requisition is considered open.
How is 'time spent in stage' defined?
Time spent in stage is measured based on the amount of time an opportunity has spent in that stage as of the end of the date range.
Does time that an opportunity spends in a snoozed state count towards its time spent in stage?
Yes, if an opportunity is snoozed in a stage that time still counts towards the time the opportunity spent in the stage.
Do changes made to the time-to-fill calculation only affect requisitions created after the changes were implemented?
No, the Time-to-Fill Wizard works retroactively as well. Historical data related to the time-to-fill metric will be calculated based on the changes you make in the wizard.
How is data compiled for the benchmarks on the Talent Acquisition Benchmarks dashboard?
Organizations must opt-in to data sharing (via their Visual Insights Settings). All recruitment data shared with Lever for the purpose of establishing benchmarks is anonymized and aggregated. For more information on Lever's data handling policy, refer to the
documentation in our Privacy Center.
What are the default reference points for the time-to-hire calculation?
By default, time to hire is calculated based on the time between the point at which an opportunity is created and the point at which that opportunity is archived as Hired. The reference points for the time to hire calculation can be adjusted via your Visual Insights Settings.
How can I use Visual Insights to perform a cleanup of stale opportunities associated with closed postings?
On the Postings dashboard, you can drill into the set of closed postings on the 'Postings by status' chart, or by referencing the 'Active opportunities against closed postings' tile. You can then take action with the associated opportunities from the drill down table. The Recruiter Operations dashboard can also be used to identify aging postings and stale opportunities. You can learn more about these dashboards in the Postings dashboard help article and Recruiter Operations dashboard help article respectively.
How can I use Visual Insights to view the volume of upcoming interviews associated with postings that I follow?
If you have the Advanced Analytics add-on, you can use the 'Interviews' page on the Recruiter Operations dashboard to view a breakdown of upcoming interviews.
Does Visual Insights require data to be reindexed?
The need to reindex is a holdover from our legacy reporting functionality. Visual Insights' improved analytics functionality makes it unnecessary to reindex data.
Can the Talent Acquisition Benchmarks dashboard be filtered by company size or industry?
At this time, it is not possible to filter the Talent Acquisition Benchmarks dashboard in this way. We are exploring options to include this capability into our product roadmap.
Is it possible to filter Visual Insights dashboards for candidates that apply to multiple job postings?

Does Visual Insights show conversion rates between pipeline stages?
Yes - these metrics can be found on the 'Conversions' chart on the Pipeline dashboard.
Can the dashboards in Visual Insights be filtered to reflect requisitions and postings from multiple locations?
Yes. The Postings and Requisitions dashboards each contain a location filter, which you can use to filter by multiple locations. Keep in mind that each posting and requisition can only be associated with a single location.
Can the dashboards in Visual Insights be filtered for candidates based on their skills or title?
Many dashboards in Visual Insights allow you to filter for opportunities by tag. If you tag opportunities with titles or skills, you can then filter your dashboards for metrics related to those opportunities. Refer to our our help article on Visual Insights dashboard filters to review which dashboards can be filtered by opportunity tag.
Does Visual Insights provide a way to view my organization's performance relative to industry standard metrics?
Yes - the Talent Acquisition Benchmarks dashboard can be used to compare your organization's metrics with those of other Lever accounts that have opted-in to anonymized data sharing.
How can I report on demographic data beyond responses to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) questions?
In addition to the EEO dashboard, Visual Insights also includes a Diversity dashboard. This dashboard allows you to report on demographic data based on responses to the questions in the diversity surveys active in your Lever environment. Refer to our
Diversity dashboard help article for more information. For instructions on how to set up diversity surveys for your Lever environment, refer our our
diversity surveys help article.
