Being able to filter the pipeline is a key skill when it comes to candidate management. Pipeline filters allow you to easily zero in specific cohorts of candidates that you can then act upon. Pipeline filters are also a convenient way for recruiters and hiring managers to gauge the volume of candidates distributed across the pipeline for different jobs.

How pipeline filters work

In this article, you will learn about the three methods for filtering your candidate pipeline. It is important to note that the filters described in this article affect every section of the pipeline when applied. As such, when you input filter criteria, you will notice the total number of opportunities in each section (and the stages within it) change. This applies to active candidates in the Lead, Applicant, and Interview sections, as well as inactive candidates in your Archive. Each of the filters described below can be used in conjunction with one another.

The opportunities and candidate profiles that appear will be impacted by a user's access role in Lever. For example, filter results for Limited Team Members will be limited to opportunities associated with postings and opportunities to which they have access.

For more information on searching for specific candidates or running an advanced search, refer to the following resources:

Filtering by job posting

The filter menu to the left of the candidate list allows you to filter the pipeline by job posting.

Filtering by job ownership and status

By default, the filter menu will show open postings of which you are the owner or hiring manager. To modify this, click to expand the job filter at the top of the filter menu and select 'all jobs' instead. Here, you can also modify job posting status.

Note, this filter does not affect the candidate opportunities that appear in the pipeline; it only affects which postings filters appear in the filter menu.

Sorting posting filters by team, location, owner, or hiring manager

By default, the posting filters are grouped by team name. You can change this grouping by clicking the up/down arrow keys next to the posting filter search bar.

Note, this filter does not affect the candidate opportunities that appear in the pipeline; it only affects the arrangement of how the posting filters appear in the filter menu.

Using job posting filters

Posting filters are nested within their respective group (see above). Clicking a group in the filter menu will reveal the postings within it. Once you have expanded a group, note that you can click Select all to quickly apply posting filters within that group.

Selected filters will appear at the top of the filter menu. From here, you can remove posting filters individually (by clicking the 'X' aligned to its right) or remove all posting filters by clicking Clear all.

Note that no matter how you have sorted the posting filters, a 'General opportunities' option will always be present in the posting filter menu. Selecting this option will filter the pipeline for candidates associated with general opportunities. This filter can be used in conjunction with other posting filters to filter the pipeline for candidates associated with specific jobs as well as those associated with general opportunities.

Filtering by candidate ownership

By default, the opportunity list will show all opportunities in the pipeline that your role and user permissions allow you to see. Click the dropdown arrow next to the heading above the opportunity list to filter candidates by these options:

  • All owners: All candidates in your system that you have access to.
  • Owned by me: Candidates you own; note that you may not own all candidates who are associated with a job that you own.
  • Followed candidates: Candidates you follow (i.e., get notifications about).

Use the toggle at the bottom of the filter menu to show only snoozed opportunities in the selected category (all candidates, candidates you own, or candidates you follow). When you leave and come back to the candidates page, the page will display the candidates with the filter you last used.

For more on ownership, refer to our help article on editing job postings' owners.

Search bar filters

Additional pipeline filters can be accessed via the search bar. Click the filter icon (aligned to the right within the search bar in the platform header) to reveal the advanced filter modal.

A pop out will appear with available filters, and additional filters can be added by clicking + add filters at the bottom.

You can filter the pipeline to only view candidate opportunities of a particular origin (e.g. Referred, Agency), candidates with a particular tag, or candidates who have responded to application questions in a particular way.

These filters include:

  • Job posting
  • Stage/archive reason
    • Filter for opportunities in your search results based on their location in the pipeline or archive. Setting this filter to 'Archive' will allow you to further filter search results by opportunities' archive reasons as well as their last stage reached in the active part of the pipeline (prior to being archived).
  • Owners
  • Origins
  • Sources
  • Tags
  • Locations
    • The location filter allows searching by city or country but not state or region. This is because Lever searches within 100 miles of a selected location for any non-country.
  • Skills
  • Last interaction
  • Average rating
  • Application question
  • GDPR
    • Only appears if GDPR is enabled; returns opportunities based on if the candidate is protected by GDPR, open to future jobs, or due to be anonymized.
  • Data Compliance
    • Only appears if Data Compliance is enabled; returns opportunities based on if the candidate is protected by a Data Compliance policy, open to future jobs, or due to be anonymized.
  • Company
    • Filter for candidates who have experience at particular companies. Companies are parsed from the candidates’ resumes.
  • Job titles
    • Filter based on job titles that have been parsed from the resume.
  • Education
    • Filter based on schools/universities that have been parsed from the candidates resume.
  • Years of experience
    • Filter for candidates based on how many years of experience they have. Years of experience are calculated based on parsed dates from the candidate’s resume.

Once you have input your desired filter values, click the Filter Candidates button. The filters you have applied will be listed above the opportunity list. A tally of the total number of filters you have applied will be listed next to the list icon in the search bar. If you have applied more than three filters, you will need to click View more in order to reveal all of the filters you have applied.
